To date Habitat for Humanity Buffalo has enabled 214 low-income families to become homeowners living in simple, decent, safe, energy-efficient houses. Each family is required to put in 500 hours of "sweat equity" building/rehabbing their houses. The organization works on the principle of "providing a hand up, not a hand out".
